Jarrett Cherner Trio
The Jarrett Cherner Trio performs music that's rooted in the jazz piano tradition and driven by a fascinating blend of contemporary world influences. Latin rhythms propelled by a jazz swing engine create the framework for sizzling improvisations and electric interplay between these three fiery, young musicians.
It's no surprise that this intriguing group is able to generate such heat by rubbing together the musical dynamite sticks of American jazz and Latin rhythms. Pianist/composer Jarrett Cherner is a San Francisco native who studied extensively at the New England Conservatory of Music with masters like Danilo P'rez and Michael Cain. Bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Jorge P'rez-Albela, on the other hand, both hail from Lima, Peru. The three players met and honed their instincts and skills on the vibrant jazz scene of Boston.
The Jarrett Cherner Trio is celebrating the May 2006 release of their first CD, Burgeoning. The recording stands as testimony to the versatile power of this wonderful group, from the angular groove of "Stand Your Own," through the raucous, bluesy shuffle, "Sucker Punch," to the introspective "Somebody Quietly."
Cherner has toured throughout the northeast and, with bandmates Roeder and P'rez-Albela, through Peru, as well. Active as a composer as well as performer, he received an honorable mention from the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards 2005/2006. In January of 2006, Cherner finally moved back home to the Bay Area. Welcome home, Jarrett. And most importantly, welcome to Pearl's!
Don't miss the homecoming and CD release party for this dynamic, multi-cultural trio!
