SO YOU WANT TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS: HOW TO APPROACH YOUR FIRST ROUND OF INVESTMENT

Speaker: Seth Goldman, Co-Founder and TeaEO of Honest Tea

For many small businesses, starting the business and getting its products and services to market is only the first step. Growing their business is much harder, requiring scaling of production, distribution, sales and marketing and associated management and staff.  All that takes money, and for many this will mean the first round of investment. In this program, Seth Goldman, co-founder and TeaEO of Honest Tea, will discuss the steps for you to consider when approaching your first round of investment.

- Do you really need to raise outside funds?
- Debt or equity?
- What should you look for in an investor?  What is a good      match?
- What are investors are looking for?
- Approaches to valuation.
- What to look for in an investment agreementthe devil is in the details.

Seth Goldman co-founded Honest Tea in 1998 with Professor Barry Nalebuff of the Yale School of Management. Over the past sixteen years the company has thrived as consumers have shifted toward healthier and more sustainable diets.  In March 2011, Honest Tea was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company, helping to further the reach and impact of Honest Tea's mission by becoming the first organic and Fair Trade brand in  the world's largest beverage distribution system.  In September, 2013, Seth and Barry published their New York Times bestseller, Mission in a Bottle.  In 2008 Seth co-founded Bethesda Green, co-chaired its board for three years and continues to serve on its board.
