Motivation and Intention in Burlesque Storytelling
Burlesque is a powerful art form and can be used to tell stories to entice, amuse, and inspire an audience as well as empowering the performer. Creating clear character motivation and understandable plotlines are vital to powerful burlesque storytelling.
This workshop will explore character motive and intent, plotline development, and how to create empowering themes and stories through burlesque performance. Discussion and exercises will also address how to stay true to your character, conflict/resolution, and power dynamics in duet and group performance.
Bio:
Queertini Time is an award-winning, gender-bending burlesque duet from Austin, Texas. Comprised of Eaton Johnson and Shelby Mine, this comedic duo began performing together in 2004. Notable performances include the Southern Fried Burlesque Festival, Texas Burlesque Festival, Dallas Burlesque Festival, and the Fierce International Queer Burlesque Festival.
This duo was awarded Best Duet and the Audience Choice award at the first annual Southern Fried Burlesque Festival in 2011. More recently, they were selected as Best Ensemble at the 2013 Texas Burlesque Festival.
Queertini Time strives to create innovative numbers that question (and sometimes destroy) gender roles and stereotypes. Eaton's uncanny comic timing and Shelby's saucy style always provide for a provocative, humorous, and unique experience for the audience. Partners in life as well as on stage, this couple really enjoys "rehearsing" together.
