María García Esperón is a Mexican writer well known for her children's and young adults' literature. She studied Social Sciences at Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana and Classical Languages at Universidad National Autónoma de México. She worked as a journalist and as a radio scriptwriter. In 2004 she was awarded the prize Barco de Vapor for her novel El Disco del Tiempo. In 2005, she won the children's poetry prize Premio Hispanoamericano de Poesía para Niños awarded by the foundation Letras Mexicanas and the Fondo de Cultura Económica for her poems Tigres de la Otra Noche (Tigers of the other night). In 2007 she received the children's and young adults' literature prize Norma Fundalectura for her novel Querida Alejandría.
