JOHANNES BRHAMS
Ein deutsches Requiem, nach Worten der heiligen Schrift
(A German Requiem, To Words of the Holy Scriptures, Op. 45)
-  A large-scale work for chorus, orchestra, soprano and baritone soloists, composed between 1865-1868
-  Work in seven movements, Brahms's longest composition
-  This work is sacred, but non-liturgical
-  It is thought that Brahms's mother's death, as well as the death of Robert Schumann may have inspired this work.
-  Brahms assembled the libretto himself, text derived from the German Luther Bible.
-  While other Requiems begin their focus on prayers for the dead, "Ein deutches Requiem" focuses on the living.
