Roedde House Concerts presents: "If Musique and sweet poetrie agree..."
Join us for an evening of music at the Roedde House on Saturday May 24, 2014 at 7:30pm.
"If Musique and sweet Poetrie agree---" (Richard Barnfield, 1598) then what better way to celebrate than a recital of words and music across nine centuries? Cliff Ridley, baritone, Tatiana Khvatova, piano and Alina Khvatova, violin, perform songs composed to Medieval and Elizabethan texts in the ambient Victorian parlour room at Roedde House Museum in the West End of Vancouver. They start with the beautiful lute songs of John Dowland and end with "Six Mediaeval Love Songs" by Vancouver's own beloved twentieth century composer, the late Jean Coulthard. On the way they visit that most brilliant of English art song composers, the complex Peter Warlock. All this is interspersed with music for violin by J.S. Bach. "Sigh no more, Ladies--- " Roedde House awaits with songs of timeless love.
The concert will begin at 7:30pm. Reservations are highly recommended as seating is limited.
