Join us for a very special visit by French novelist, poet, and essayist Pierre Alferi to celebrate the Month of Poetry! Pierre Alferi is one of the most innovative French poets of today. His books include poetry--Les Allures naturelles (trans. as Night and Day), Le Chemin familier du poisson combatif , Sentimentale journée (trans. as Night and Day), Kub Or (trans. as Oxo), and La Voie des airs--as well as novels Fmn, Le cinéma des familles, and most recently Les Jumelles.
He has also written lyrics for the actress and singer Jeanne Balibar and completed a commissioned work last year for the Paris public transportation system consisting of 6'x3' calligrams on translucent walls. His experimental film Cinépoèmes & films parlants features readings of his poetry with music and projections.
Born to French philosopher Jacques Derrida and psychoanalyst Marguerite Aucouturier, Alferi carries on both a rich familial and cultural heritage while inscribing his own place in the contemporary literary landscape.
Co-hosted with UW's Division of French and Italian Studies, with support from the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
