Piemonte's Unknown Wine Treasures
When's the last time you drank a Favorita? Or single-vineyard Arneis? Or late-harvest dessert Arneis? Or Birbet? These are just some of the extraordinary wines we'll taste at this Winemaker Showcase, led by Roberto Damonte, winemaker at the tiny Malvirá winery in Canale, in the Roero region of Italy's Piemonte.
Roberto is committed to the native varieties of his native land, and this, surprisingly for Piemonte where the famous wines are Barolo and Barbaresco, means an amazing selection of white wines. Just in time for warmer weather in Maine! Malvirá also makes an exceptional Barbera, and a pure-Nebbiolo wine that can hang with Barolo/Barbaresco at a fraction of the price.
At this showcase, we'll taste along the whole spectrum of Malvirá wines, ably guided by Roberto who will shine a bright spotlight on this under-appreciated region of the wine world.
Millions of years ago, the entire Roero was underwater. As the seas receded, sandy soils, rife with fossils and seashells, were left behind. These impart a mineral salinity to all the wines, which mate perfectly with Maine's fresh seafood. Rosemont Chef Brad Messier will prepare a number of dishes in small-plate format, emphasizing the best that Maine's waters have to offer.
Uniquely delicious wines and food, all served in a communal setting where you'll have direct access to a true artisanal winemaker. Space is limited, to preserve the intimate nature of the event. Reserve your spots now!
