La Pena: A Gathering to Celebrate Indigenous Knowledge, Culture and Arts
On October 27, Seattle University will host La Pena in the Pigott Auditorium in the Pigott Building. The dramatic arts, dance, music, and the creative forces of human beings are gathered in a special evening of celebration known as La Pena. This idea of a gathering place to share art, food, music, cultural traditions and social concerns began in Latin America in the early 1960s. Penas were created so all artists could share their gifts with others as a way of furthering ideas of social justice. This communal space was a way to express creative forms and to promote a deeper understanding of the common good. We are proud to provide a shared space where all people can listen, learn and appreciate the diverse expressions that speak to the human heart, mind and soul.
