Preserve the Reserve & Jam for Justice!
"Preserve the Reserve and Jam for Justice," Saturday, May 30th, 5 - 11 pm at the "O" Open Space for Arts and Community, on Vashon Island. This two-part event will feature a grilled wild salmon dinner, "New Society Auction"*, and jaw-dropping entertainment, including aerialist Esther Edelman, opera by Jennifer Krikawa, a vibrant Procession for the Future parade, and Seattle's Yellow Hat Brass Band.
Tickets are $40; a table for 8 is $280. There are a limited number of tickets to the dinner and auction, so get yours today. Deadline for dinner tickets is May 27th. Reserve a table by calling the Backbone office at 206.408.8058.
At 8 we'll open the doors for the "Jam for Justice," featuring over 20 Island musicians playing the music of legendary musicians Janice, Jimi, Joan, etc - performers whose name begins with a "J"! Tickets are just $15. Steffon Moody will emcee and there will plenty of space to dance, sit and enjoy the music, relax with a drink, and soak in the vast Island talent.
All proceeds from Preserve the Reserve and Jam for Justice will fund the Backbone Campaign's efforts to stop the proposed expansion of the Glacier gravel mine on Maury Island. Stand Up for the Aquatic Reserve!
*What is the "New Society Auction," you ask? Instead of auctioning "Stuff", the New Society Auction connects auction donors to bidders in a spirit of building community. Auctioneer Kevin Joyce will present items that inspire sustainability, change, and community -- like a Vashon Bike Share Program in town, the New Legacy Farmography Project, and the Great Community Tamale Experience. There will also be auction items like a House Concert by Ian Moore, a chance to bid on a giant puppet head in your (or a friend's) likeness. Or an Island Staycation package. It'll be a fun and inspiring collaboration between the Backbone Campaign, you, and our community.
