Chestnut Hill Walking Tour
Walking tour of the St, Martins area led by Peter Lapham, former executive director of the Chestnut Hill Historical Society.
Meet at the intersection of Willow Grove Avenue and Lincoln Drive.
This walk will take us by some of the outstanding housing complexes developed by George Woodward between 1910 and 1930. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, English town planning and the Woodwards frequent trips to Europe, these buildings create a unique fabric that contributes substantially to Chestnut Hill's appeal. We also will have a chance to see three of Philadelphia's iconic modern houses by Louis Kahn, Robert Venturi and Kenneth Day and stroll by some of the more substantial Victorian and early 20th century houses as we return to the starting point.
