Our Town
Two years ago, AfterWork Theater Project opened its doors and for the first time, everyday professionals had the opportunity to rehearse and perform fully-staged plays and musicals in New York City. No audition required. Our sold out productions of HAIR and RENT had to be see to be believed!
This season we're taking AfterWork to the next level, putting on four fantastic productions including Legally Blonde: The Musical, Our Town, our second Sing Out! a musical cabaret and the AWTP Improv Troupe! Come watch extraordinary people take to the stage, some for the first time in a long time, others, for the first time ever. It's an experience full of fun, community, and creative self-expression!
Our Town is a 1938 three act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. Set in the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners, it tells the story of an average town's citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives. Scenes from the town's history between the years of 1901 and 1913 are performed. The play is performed without a set and the actors mime their actions without the use of props. Wilder uses metatheatrical devices, such as narration by a stage manager.
