Distractions
Come see the premiere of a brand-new dance by Elizabeth Mulkey!
The movement of "Distractions" was inspired by the concept of waves of overwhelming thoughts, and the way in which a single interaction - however brief or extensive - can become a lingering, haunting force. A rough sea of thoughts and memories can flood and possess reality. In just one being, there can exist many perspectives of the past, present, and future depending on which part of the individual the forgiving or the begrudging, the confident or the insecure is reminiscing. Attempting to separate from thoughts, can shed light on the difference between being consumed and reaching a sense of clarity.
Elizabeth Mulkey is from Venice Beach California. She received her BA in Dance and Theater from Loyola Marymount University. She has made a great rewarding career as a Pilates and Yoga teacher, working with dancers and a variety of other fun human beings. Her body work and acting experience continue to inform and inspire her dance aesthetic. Desiring to further develop and grow as a dancer and actress, she moved to New York in 18 2012months ago. She played Miss Prism in "The Importance of Being Earnest" at The Tank Theater in 2013 and while there discovered the XYZ NYC choreographer contest. Elizabeth won and became the XYZ NYC champion for 2013. She is now so dearly thankful to XYZ NYC and all the dancers involved for kick starting her first evening-length choreographic creation. To her mother, father, sister, family, and friends Elizabeth is forever grateful for their continual support and excitement surrounding her life in dance!
