smARTfilms: BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB
BIMA smARTfilms series fosters community conversation through the merger of visual art, film, and narrative. After the screening, our host and guest(s) will initiate a discussion about the film and its art. All are welcome to participate in an open exchange of ideas during these post-film discussions.
BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB - Wim Wenders' documentary begs that we delve deeper into the images, sounds and culture of Cuba through the adventures of musician Ry Cooder during his 1996 travels there. Legendary 'soneros' musicians including 90-year-old singer/guitarist Compay Segundo and Omara Portuondo, "the Cuban Edith Piaf," are filmed and recorded in their home country and abroad in scenes that capture the beauty, sorrow and tenderness of the music, musicians and their country of origin. A hosted discussion will follow the film.
BONUS! Join us for dinner in the BIMA Bistro for a Cuban-themed meal. Dinner reservations: 206.451.4011
