ALL WE HAVE ARE MASSIVE PROBLEMS & INSURMOUNTABLE DOUBTS
Following a health scare, forty-something couple Susie and Vanessa have decided
to act on their ache for a less hectic, digitally detoxed life and buy a big old rundown
farmhouse on the seaside in beautiful Caithness. Their plan is to do it up and run it as
a tranquil artists' retreat, but it doesn't take long for reality i.e. ruinous repairs, vicious
wildlife and weirdo neighbours to bite.
Vanessa has caved spectacularly and is blogging, tweeting and Instagramming
everything they do, while Susie has resorted to Buddhism. And it's just about working
until old friend Grace, and her outspoken new young lover Amber, show up one morning
out of the blue and start to unravel even darker and stranger reasons why it might be
time to start planning an escape back to the city.
ALL WE HAVE ARE MASSIVE PROBLEMS & INSURMOUNTABLE DOUBTS,
performed by four outstanding professional actors, is a fast-moving and touching
exploration of how people hold on to their dreams even when they turn into a nightmare.
Writer and director Lorraine McCann has written comedy and drama for BBC Radio 4,
Radio Scotland and the Edinburgh Fringe. She gratefully acknowledges the help and
financial support of the Tom McGrath Trust towards staging this script-in-hand reading.
