Maybe you were just trying to be polite or thought you could save face or smooth things over with your lie. Or perhaps you secretly imagine yourself as a former Olympic bobsledder or Playboy bunny or Rhodes scholar and wanted to see if others would sign on. And maybe they believed you. And maybe they knew you were full of it. And maybe another lie was told on top of that one just to be sure.
