Pilot Program
April 30 to June 30 Wednesdays 8-10 PM*
April-May classes held at the Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA) June classes held at Northgate Community Center
This is a non-contact, beginner skate program designed to teach participants how to skate (stride, forward, backward, lateral) fall safely, and stop proficiently. Curriculum is centered around the goal of passing WFTDA minimum skills requirements and progressing to contact-level skating, where skaters can learn how to play the sport of Roller Derby. In addition to on-skate practices, participants will have opportunities to learn about the rules and gameplay in group discussions.
If Roller Derby isn't your personal goal, that's great too! This program will provide you the necessary skills to skate safely in whatever way brings you joy! We're excited that you've chosen to work hard, get sweaty and laugh with us!
What you'll need: Helmet Mouthguard Wrist guard Elbow pads Kneepads Rollerskates
Our good friends at Get Your Bearings Skate Shop can help you find everything you'll need!
We have an assortment of donated pads and helmets for day-of use! Sizes are varied and limited, and skaters will need to provide their own mouthguards and skates. Reach out to us at newskater@jetcityrollerderby.com with any questions, and to ensure we have the resources necessary to support you!
