Join the AAC Sierra Nevada Section for climbing, free camping, a Saturday evening party with beer, wine and snacks hosted by the SNS, and campfire, all on the beautiful undeveloped property of SNS member Bela Vadasz of Alpine Skills International. Its right on top of Donner Pass, within easy walking distance of the superb granite crags. $10 for AAC members and $15 for non-members. Let's grow the Section, everyone is welcome so invite your friends.
LOCATION: We will camp off Lake Mary Road just Southwest of and adjacent to the old ASI lodge (now Sugar Bowl Academy). It's right on top of Donner Pass on the South side of Old Highway 40. So if you're coming up the pass from the West, turn right immediately before the Sugar Bowl Academy parking lot, and if you're coming up from the East, turn left immediately after that parking lot. Parking will be along Lake Mary Road. Don't park in the Academy's lot. We'll have some small signs up. Tent/bivi sites are scattered about a 25 to 50m walk from the road.
GROUP GEAR / FACILITIES: SNS will provide: a Wag Bag toilet system with privacy tent at the site, some community water containers, a large folding table for the food, a group shelter if needed (perhaps for wind). Bring your own: tent, chair, other camping gear, breakfast, lunch and dinner food, some water, climbing gear, and good cheer.
SCHEDULE: Friday June 6 through Sunday June 8. Arrive Friday evening (or whenever), climb Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to join us for the whole deal or just one day or just the party or whatever you can do. We'll be at the site from about 7 PM on Friday (maybe earlier). We don't climb as a big organized group; rather you can partner up if needed and head off on your own. I'm sure anyone needing a partner or beta on where/what to climb will find it from our group. We can walk to most of the climbs, and there are fantastic routes for all abilities. Saturday evening party will start around 6:00 pm--SNS will provide a grill, campfire supplies, and beer and wine and polish dogs with fix'ns. You're welcome to use the grill for anything you wish to add to your Saturday evening chow.
