Stage Combat Workshop with Christopher Elst
This three-hour workshop is an introduction to unarmed stage combat. Led by actor and fight director Christopher Elst, you'll receive a practical and professional introduction to slaps, punches, chokes, and falling on stage. The session culminates in working together in small groups to practice creating a fight scene. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates and emerging professionals. Space is extremely limited, so apply early!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Christopher Elst is a Milwaukee-based fight director and violence designer. He holds the rank of Advanced Actor Combatant recommended in all eight weapon disciplines and holding proficiency in firearms safety with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and the rank of Apprentice Instructor with Dueling Arts International (DAI) under Master Teacher DC Wright. Since 2005, he has received training from world-renowned instructors, including Broadway Fight Director Chuck Coyl, Hall of Fame Stuntman David Boushey, and Richard Ryan, swordmaster and stunt coordinator for such major Hollywood films as Troy, Sherlock Holmes, Stardust, and The Dark Knight. Christopher considers stage combat a modern martial art, combining seemingly deadly technique with aesthetic beauty. As a performer himself, he embraces a philosophy of theatrical violence summed up in three words: "Safety, then story."
