Equus - the Tony award winning drama by Peter Shaffer
Presented by the Custom Made Theatre Co. (last season's hit "The Heidi Chronicles") and winner of the Tony award for Best Play, Peter Shaffer's brilliant "Equus" is a masterpiece of psychological theatre.
When Allan, an adolescent boy (Gabe Ross) is brought to Dr. Dysart's (Fred Pitts) office by a local judge, he thinks its just going to be another in a long line of disturbed children that he has long tired of treating. Instead, it turns out to be something far more complex and disturbing: a confrontation with himself as well as with Alan in which he comes to an inescapable view of man's need to worship and the distortions forced on that need by society.
Directed by Alice Shikina, "Equus" uses a complex and visionary theatricality to explain an unexplainable crime, and the impact of that action on both the patient and the doctor.
