BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance is a contemporary dance company of womxn and non-binary individuals that captures and communicates universal human encounters through dynamic, purposeful movement. Our mission is to examine depths of society in their darkest and brightest moments and to inspire audiences to physically sense emotional and psychological aspects of the human condition on stage.
The culminating performances of the BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance 2024-25 residency with the Goddard Riverside Community Arts Program will showcase a newly developed version of the critically-acclaimed p u r p l e f l a m e, a new work in its creation process titled Embers of Becoming, and a work created and performed by our 2025 Summer Intensive participants.
p u r p l e f l a m e is a work that explores the strength of human resilience through the perspective of an individual and of a community more broadly. It specifically explores the challenge of navigating personal health challenges and navigating the journey of finding strength and adaptability within times of vulnerability. The choreographic inspiration for this work arose within a free movement rehearsal space. In p u r p l e f l a m e, fluidity and buoyancy act as thematic anchoring points as dancers allow themselves to fall freely through space. The work investigates personal intuition and group support, illustrating the depth and complexity of each persons lived experiences and state of being.
Embers of Becoming is a contemporary movement project and contemporary dance piece that is being created through an extensive, embodied research process, featuring public movement workshops and an immersive public performance. The project explores the complex, bittersweet journey of getting older, addressing the weight of human existence and the experiences that come with the passage of time. It illustrates coming-of-age as an ongoing process that continues throughout adulthood, inviting participants to reflect on their own journeys through life. By using intricate movement and layered storytelling, Embers of Becoming delves into the emotional tension between sorrow and happiness, hardship and purpose. The project asks profound questions about how we find meaning in our lives especially during difficult moments and how we navigate loss, disappointment, and grief as we grow older. At the same time, it celebrates the beauty within those darker moments, reflecting on the joy, connection, and laughter that can emerge in unexpected places, even when life feels overwhelming.
Teresa Fellion's choreography is like a car engine of movement; transference of energy that is constantly remolded/shifted, and brings us to a beautiful place -Celeste Miller, Jacobs Pillow International Dance Festival
