Event
A day at the Hudson Ranch with Slow Food
On Sat., May 30th we will have the opportunity to visit one of the most interesting and special farms in the area. The Hudson Ranch.
The Hudson Ranch in Napa is a true poly-culture oriented farm. Lee Hudson raises hogs, 3-4 breeds of chickens(both for eggs and meat),cattle, turkeys, organic vegetables(he has dedicated 3+ acres of his ranch for this), fruit trees, olive trees, grapes and wine. It is an amazing venture with a lot of soul behind it. Lee, the visionary behind the farm, is a true character and has an energy that is best experienced in person.
During this event we'll visit all of the areas of his ranch with he and his ranch manager Scott Boggs, who is the gentleman that was Thomas Kellers Garden manager for several years, to get a sense of what they do and how they do it. Why they are choosing to grow animals and vegetables rather than grapes. Why they choose the different breeds of hog, chicken and turkeys. Which plants they are putting in the ground etc. We then will adjourn to a small grove of trees off of one of their ponds for a mid-day meal featuring pork and chicken from the ranch as prepared by Chef Stephen Barber of BarbersQ in Napa.
