Chrononaut: opening night with The Unextraordinary Gentlemen
Steampunk began as contemporary science fiction invoking the feel and imagery of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne. It has recently exploded into an artistic movement bringing together alternative technology tinkerers, costumers, artists, musicians, computer modifiers, goths, punks, geeks and freaks. Steampunk is brass, clockwork and wood, top hats, corsets and goggles. It is a past that never was but should have been. It is a mash-up of the contemporary and the Victorian, and a rebellion against plastic boxes and disposable culture.
Other clubs have done steampunk theme nights but Chrononaut is the first club in California to follow the lead of the most unique and successful steampunk club to date, The Clockwork Ball. Rather than just do a brassy version of neo-Victorian goth club Chrononaut uses the open ended fresh aesthetic of steampunk to mix a variety of alternative music genres with anachronism as its guiding force.
Expect diverse crowd of old and young, dressed in highly varied styles of steampunk fashion. Expect one of the most creative and literary bands ever to evoke a dark Victorian aesthetic. Expect a night unlike anything you have experienced before.
