Politics, Leadership and Culture in a New Light
Move beyond partisan politics with disciplined inquiry into the challenges we face as a species and the capacity we need to see, care about, understand and solve our toughest problem. Politics as usual isn't working! How do we move beyond the need for 30 second sound bites and palatable answers to explain complex challenges and potential solutions?
Join us at the National Music Centre on May 14 for an interview with two Leadership Calgary program alumni - Ken Chapman and Stephen Carter - who are uniquely thoughtful, and deeply immersed in applied political strategy and policy development. They care about the future and the qualities of leadership and culture necessary to navigate 21st century challenges, and speak freely about what they've learned.
The National Post, CBC and other political commentators have described Stephen Carter as a "political mastermind." In reality, he is at the forefront of a new political class focused on post-partisan politics. He led Alison Redford's successful race for the Progressive Conservative Association leadership bid in Alberta, as well as her come-from-behind campaign for premier of the province. He also served as Redford's chief of staff. Stephen was the architect of Naheed Nenshi's remarkable 2010 campaign for mayor of Calgary. His roots in politics include serving as media liaison and strategist to Joe Clark from 2001 to 2003. Carter is now the National Director of Campaign Strategy for Hill+Knowlton Strategies.
From Ken Chapman's online bio: "Social media savant and lawyer Ken Chapman, past Executive Director of the Oil Sands Developers Group, is always looking for the next narrative in a sweeping range of interests from business and environment to social concerns and community development. Often called a game changer and divergent thinker, Ken passionately believes in the power of citizen engagement and participation in the democratic process. And this accomplished raconteur is as comfortable brainstorming over a bowl of soup with cultural creatives as he is helping guide decisions and policies in corporate boardrooms and government committee rooms."
