Willy Wonka Jr.
This Children's Musical Theater production of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Jr., follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory--or suffer the consequences. This stage adaptation features the songs from the classic family film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Directed by Missi Smith, the cast features 33 Methow children, costumes, lights and sound by Liberty Bell High students, and set pieces by the Liberty Bell High School construction, welding and art classes through a partnership with the Public School Funding Alliance. Sponsored by the Winthrop Kiwanis and Sheri's Sweet Shoppe. Willy Wonka Jr. runs May 9 - 18. Fri., Sat at 7 pm, Sun. 2 pm. Pay What You Can Thurs., May 15 at 7 pm. Tickets available online or at the door $12 Adult, $5 Youth 18 & Under. The Merc Playhouse 101 S. Glover St. Twisp 509-997-PLAY (7529) www.mercplayhouse.org
