The May 3 program will feature: Sonata in G Major, BWV 1027 by Johann Sebastian Bach Sonata in D Major, Opus 102, No. 2 by Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata in E Minor, Opus 38 by Johannes Brahms
Michael Kannen, cello, was a founding member of Brentano String Quartet and is currently a member of the Apollo Trio. During his years with the Brentano Quartet, they were awarded the first Cleveland Quartet Award, the Naumburg Chamber Music Award, a Royal Philharmonic Award, and was the first participant in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center II. He plays on period instruments as a part of a Houston-based group Context, and has played at major festivals such as Chamber Music Northwest, Portland Chamber Music Festival, and the International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove, England. Michael has collaborated with such artists as Jessye Norman, Phyllis Bryn-Julson, Sergiu Luca, Donald Weilerstein, Pamela Frank, Leon Fleisher, Mitsuko Uchida, Peter Frankl, Paula Robison, Charles Neidich, Steven Isserlis, and with jazz artists Michael Formanek and Uri Caine. Michael is Director of Chamber Music at the Peabody Institute where he holds the Sidney Friedberg Chair in Chamber Music.
Seth Knopp, piano, is Artistic Director of Yellow Barn and also serves as Artistic Director of Soundings: New Music at the Nasher, a concert series at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas. He is a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Peabody Trio, Ensemble-in-Residence at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University where he serves as a member of the piano and chamber music faculties. He has performed throughout Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, and Japan. Seth has recorded on the CRI, Analekta, New World Records, and Artek labels.
