Healthcare Professionals for REAP
We all care about the environment, and we have all seen how climate change is leading to a growing number of health problems and even public health emergencies. We all want to help contribute to solutions, but it can be hard to know where to start or what to do. Our working group of healthcare professionals is pleased to announce an opportunity to learn from a local organization that is working on practical solutions to this issue in Alaska. Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP) is a well-organized non-profit with over 60 dues-paying member organizations spanning electric utilities, Alaska Native entities, private businesses, local governments, educational institutions, and other organizations, with a proven track record of accelerating the development of renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency across Alaska.
For two decades, REAP has focused on the financing and policy necessary to expand clean energy technology and the people that operate, maintain, and optimize our energy grids.
REAP is: 1) In our schools working with students and training teachers to deliver REAP-developed STEM curricula through the lens of clean energy and climate solutions;
2) Conducting energy workforce assessments, delivering trainings, and building community capacity for developing local energy plans as well as funding and building local clean energy projects; and
3) Advocating for policy solutions to spur the development of an in-state clean energy economy and improve health outcomes across the state related to air quality, access to clean water and affordable energy, and myriad other negative effects of climate change.
We hope you will join us and your fellow healthcare professionals at this REAP-sponsored symposium to learn more about these efforts and how you can engage with the work being done to promote clean energy solutions now.
The event will be held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, November 21, at the home of Drs. KC Kaltenborn and Cathie Schumacher (6640 Lawlor Circle, Anchorage, AK 99502). Complimentary food and beverages will be provided!
