FUNDRAISER TO ASSIST WITH FIRE PREPAREDNESS ON SPRING MOUNTAIN
The Glass Fire devastated many areas of Napa Valley in 2020 and the Spring Mountain District area was one of the hardest hit. State of the art fire fighting practices and equipment are consistently being evaluated to prevent a fire of that magnitude in the future. "We are now raising money to install the Beacon Box mapping system on Spring Mountain," explains Brandon Benelli of the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council. The Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council invites the public to a special benefit screening of Inside Out 2 on Monday, November 4 at 5:30 p.m. at The Cameo Cinema in St. Helena. This event will assist in acquiring Beacon Boxes for Spring Mountain. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. Seating is limited. Children and adults are welcome. The Cameo is located at 1340 Main Street in St. Helena. Attendees will also be given a raffle ticket for large format bottles of wines from the Spring Mountain District.
Before the screening there will be a presentation by the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council of projects planned and currently underway. Mike Wilson from Napa Firewise and Brand Benelli from the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council will present remarks. The SMFSC is raising funds for the Beacon Box Mapping System. The Beacon Box will be a great new tool in our arsenal to help our community. Each Beacon Box is approximately 2 x2 with a bright red light on top, so that theyre easily visible at night or in smoky conditions, explains Brandon Benelli of the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council. Guests will enjoy complimentary wines from Smith-Madrone Winery, an estate vineyard-winery founded in 1971 that is located at the top of the Spring Mountain District growing region. Pixars Inside Out 2 became the number 1 animated movie of all time in 2024. A sequel to Inside Out, the film tells the story of Riley's emotions as they find themselves joined by new emotions that want to take over Riley's head. "The 2020 Glass Fire burned through nearly all of the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council area, destroying a quarter of the structures and leaving us with trauma and also a sense of purpose," explains Shari Garnder, Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator, Napa Firewise. "Working together, we can prepare for the next wildfire and build wildfire resilience throughout the wider Spring Mountain community. Fuel reduction, defensible space and home/structure hardening, roadside shaded fuel breaks, reflective address signs, and evacuation planning are all parts of the equation to reduce the impacts of wildfire. Placing Beacon Boxes at key access points will provide critical information for the first responders on the scene when the next wildfire happens, helping them help us stay safe while staying safe themselves," she added. The Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council: In the aftermath of the Glass Fire in 2020, the Spring Mountain Fire Safe Council (SMFSC) was established. The SMFSC works in conjunction with Napa Firewise on projects related fire preparedness, fuel reduction, and community education in the Spring Mountain area in St. Helena.
