AFFGS 2024-25 Adoption, School, and Learning: Working with Schools - Arik Korman, CEO of League of Education Voters Foundation
Lets talk about Adoption, School, and Learning!
Adopted kids are 3x more likely than kids born to their families to have learning challenges - some research shows that up to half of them have diagnosed disabilities.
Come join the AFFGS (Adopted Friends and Families of Greater Seattle) Community this school year in a 3 part educational series to learn more about: - navigating the school systems and supports in Washington State - the developmental effects of early drug exposure as well as subtle symptoms of fetal alcohol spectrum that can have profound effects on learning - an interactive workshop with a local play therapist to learn more about how to both support your kids at home and get your own needs met for more effective and connected parenting
Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 2-4pm Arik Korman, AFFGS Dad and CEO of League of Education Voters Foundation, starts off our AFFGS Educational Series. He will address why adopted kids are more likely to need educational supports, offer LOTS of information about how parents can advocate and access those supports (and what to do when schools/staff aren't complying), and share his specific story about advocating for his son.
