Abstract
Permeation grouting is a soil stabilization technique that involves injecting low-viscosity grouts into granular soils to fill voids and cracks. This process transforms the soil into a sandstone-like mass, significantly increasing its strength, stiffness, and reducing permeability. This presentation will delve into the geological considerations and parameters essential for effective soil permeation grouting.
The grouting process itself involves the use of sleeve port pipes, which are grouted into pre-drilled holes. Chemical grout is then injected under pressure through these ports, allowing it to permeate the surrounding soil and harden into a cemented mass. This method offers several advantages, including ease of execution in limited access and space situations, and it does not require a structural connection to the foundation. Additionally, permeation grouting is cleaner, less disruptive, and faster compared to other soil stabilization methods.
Quality assurance during the grouting process is paramount. Real-time monitoring of grouting parameters can be achieved using proprietary equipment and software. The data collected during this process is invaluable, as it can be used to generate comprehensive grouting reports and CAD drawings.
The presentation will focus on four case studies and results to demonstrate the effectiveness of permeation grouting in stabilizing soils and cuts. These examples will illustrate its application in providing excavation support and underpinning existing structures adjacent to excavations, showcasing its versatility and efficacy in various engineering contexts.
