Soundhouse Benefit 2: Shooglenifty + The Bevvy Sisters
We have two bona fide Edinburgh supergroups playing in aid of The Soundhouse project on Friday 16 May (programme starts at 8pm). They'll be on at The Pleasance Theatre (Pleasance, Edinburgh) and there won't be an untapped foot in the house. Even better you can be sure all the proceeds will go towards giving Edinburgh the music venue it thoroughly deserves. Here's some info about the bands
Shooglenifty Shooglenifty have been building a massive niche for themselves ever since they came to rehearse in our (previously) scabby basement 20 years ago. They're so individual that new musical terms have had to be invented for them: "acid-croft" and "hypno-folkadelic-ambient-trad" amongst them. But fear not, you don't need to know what these terms mean, all you have to know is that they are amazing and you'll have a great time at the gig. You probably won't be able to sit down tho'!
The Bevvy Sisters The Bevvy Sisters are Edinburgh's foremost close harmony band, featuring the dream team of gorgeous girl singers Heather Macleod, Gina Rae and Cera Impala. Completing the combo is the one-man-orchestra David Donnelly on guitar, bass and vocals. The Bevvy Sisters simultaneously channel the heritage of such classic sister-acts as the Beverleys, the Andrews and the Boswells, while their own diverse backgrounds and collective songwriting skills reinvent the female trio formula. The Bevvies are currently riding high on the release of their second album Plan B.
Support is supplied by rockabilly legends Lord Rochester before the main programme, and there will be dancing to DJ Dolphin Boy in the Pleasance Cabaret Bar after the gig.
