Homeowner Septic Class
Taking care of your septic system is an important part of protecting public health and valuable water resources. It can also save you money by extending the life of your septic system and preventing costly repairs. Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) is offering free classes to homeowners about septic system operation, maintenance and inspection.
Homeowners who complete the course may be eligible for authorization from JCPH to complete their own septic system monitoring inspections. The authorization allows homeowners to maintain their systems at a low cost.
Course Description:
Septic 101 - Basics of septic system operation and maintenance. Topics covered include: How does your septic system operate? How do you maintain it? How do you landscape your yard without interfering with the smooth function of your septic system? What about garbage disposals? What impact does a working or failing system have on our drinking water, ground or surface water?
Septic 201 - Step by step inspection of the septic system and reporting the results.
There is a $12.97 fee at the end of class to become authorized if eligible.
