The Devil and Thomas Briggs
The People's Theatre Lab is proud to present a workshop of their first original play, THE DEVIL AND THOMAS BRIGGS!
Told in a mix of spoken word poetry and old timey blues and gospel, THE DEVIL is the 'swinging and sepia toned' tale of Thomas Briggs, a young black man forced to leave the confines of his upper crust university and return home to attend the funeral of his older brother, blues man Adonis Briggs. Unbeknownst to Thom, he is followed home by two unlikely tag-alongs- his best friend Jack Crawford and Jack's mysterious girlfriend Grace. The couple's arrival at the Briggs home precipitates a whirlwind of chaos...exploding racial tensions, ancient magic and horrific death; a storm the likes of which they've never seen, and at it's center, a secret truth older and darker than anything they could've ever imagined.
