Walking Through History, Read All About It!
The New York Times Newspaper in Education Program and The  Green-Wood Historic Fund are partnering to offer an innovative professional development workshop for educators.

Green-Wood Cemetery, founded in 1838 is a remarkable outdoor classroom.  This National Historic Landmark is a veritable "Who's Who" of our nation's innovators, inventors and newsmakers including William "Boss" Tweed, Horace Greeley, Samuel F.B. Morse, William Steinway, Leonard Bernstein, Jean Michel Basquiat and many, many more.

In this workshop, you will walk back through history visiting monuments of some celebrated figures from the 19th century, then connect them with news articles from the archives of The New York Times.

You will leave with classroom materials and learn how to: 1) Use Historic Green-Wood as a class trip destination to spark students' investigations of history, science and the arts, 2)Access news articles as they originally appeared in the New York Times druing the 19th century... and 3) Connect relevant themes from history to the news stories of today.

Participants will be served lunch at the Historic Chapel
