The Lake Tahoe Dance Festival will get underway with a Tuesday July 15 Gala Opening Night Celebration of dinner, a special performance, and a swing dance lesson for all. The following Main Stage performances on Wednesday and Thursday, July 16 & 17, will include free, educational pre-performance talks.
Main Stage performances will feature works by modern dance pioneer Erick Hawkins, and contemporary choreographers Bryan Arias, Deborah Lohse, and Deborah Wingert. Guest dancers will include Constantine Baecher (Royal Danish Ballet, Cross Connection Ballet), Bryan Arias (Nederlands Dance Theatre, Kidd Pivot), Kristina Berger (Erick Hawkins Dance), Deborah Lohse, (Doug Elkins Company, ad hoc ballet) Christin Hanna.
Our mission is to present state-of-the-art professional dance and dance instruction in North lake Tahoe. Our three goals are: to promote dance itself; enrich the community through intellectually stimulating performances, and to brand Tahoe as a cultural destination.
Founded and directed by Christin Hanna and Constantine Baecher, the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival is a project of Tahoe Youth Ballet, founded in 2009 by Christin Hanna, who returned to her native Lake Tahoe after a career performing with ballet companies in NYC. The professional level company that she established only a few years ago already boasts a varied and sophisticated repertory of approximately twenty contemporary and classical works, choreographed by guest dancemakers from around the world commissioned by the Company to set or create their work on Tahoe's talented artists.
