AFRICAN CYPHER, co-presented by the Fist Up Film Fest (Benefit Screening)
African Cypher - Street dance in South Africa is a complex, convoluted underworld; that like most sub-cultures, exist as a sum of its participants. In African townships, ghettos and suburbs exist a group of individuals who form part dance crew - part group therapy. Whether it is Isipantsula, B-boying, Krump or Sbhujwa for many of the dancers the situation in their communities is a struggle for purpose, identity, and confidence. Whatever this dance thing is, it is beautiful, part circus / part soul. No matter the context or style. We all ultimately dance for an audience of one.
This will be a benefit screening for one of the dancers featured in the film, Prince, who is now battling cancer. Please come and help someone who needs your help halfway around the world and see a great documentary feature to boot. Let's keep Prince dancing!
