Kitchen Dog Theater presents BARBECUE APOCALYPSE by Matt Lyle
World Premiere Mainstage of the 2014 New Works Festival
Directed by KDT Company Member Lee Trull
THE PLAY: The anchor production of the Festival, BARBECUE APOCALYPSE tells the story of a highly self-conscious couple who desperately wants to impress their trend-setting, more sophisticated friends at their backyard barbecue. Luckily for them, the world ends during their less-than-spectacular shindig, and survival becomes the only remaining status symbol in this hilarious and timely new comedy from the writer of the award-winning play THE BOXER.
THE PLAYWRIGHT: Originally from East Texas, Matt Lyle is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and winner of the Outstanding Theatre Graduate Award from Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre. He co-founded Bootstraps Comedy Theater in Dallas, Texas for which he continues to serve as Artistic Director. In 2007, The Dallas Observer named Bootstraps as Best Small Theater Company and Matt as Best New Playwright, and he immediately up and moved to Chicago with his beautiful wife, Kim. Matt is a member of The Dramatist Guild and his plays have been produced in Dallas, Chicago, New York, Orlando and the University of Michigan. His plays that have had productions in Dallas are: TAB A SLOT B, SUNNY AND EDDIE SITTING IN A TREE, THE BOXER (Bootstraps Comedy Theater), HELLO HUMAN FEMALE (Audacity Theatre Lab), KNOW/NO (Pegasus Theater), THE BETTER DOCTOR (Upstart Productions) and THE CHICKEN WHO WASN'T CHICKEN (Fun House Theater and Film). THE BETTER DOCTOR premiered in Chicago in 2010 and was named by NPR as one of the Top Five Most Overlooked Shows, which was, presumably, a compliment. Matt and Kim will be moving back to Dallas next fall with their nine-month-old daughter, Anna. They thought it would be negligent to not allow their child to grow up around family or have immediate access to authentic Tex-Mex cuisine.
THE CAST: Michael Federico, Martha Harms, Max Hartman, Barry Nash, Miranda Parham, Leah Spillman & Jeff Swearingen
