Julie Mayo: There, there
"There, there" is a dance with a past, present and future happening at the same time. Directed and performed by Mayo with Katie Dean, Stacy Grossfield and Jillian Sweeney, Mayo's latest work focuses on the collision of the inner life of the performers with an externally imposed formal construct, bringing into play and into question our sense of time, location, and the work of staying present.
With a steady interest in an emergent premise approach to making dances and a keen attention to the personality and disposition of performers, There, there embraces the emotional thought and felt presence of the individual within the collective endeavor.
"Mayo makes works that surprise, challenge and inspire with fully realized worlds and confident, brave choices." --Time Out Chicago
