Edie Carey| ediecarey.com
Boston-based singer-songwriter Edie Carey is known for her unmistakable honeyed voice, her intelligent, heart-grabbing songs, but perhaps most especially for her warm, engaging presence on - and off - stage. As much a part of her show as the music itself, Edie's wry and often self-mocking humor makes audiences feel as though they have just spent an evening with a very close friend.
Edie has been performing more than 180 shows a year at festivals, colleges, and listening rooms in the US, Canada and the UK since 1999. Her just-released fifth album, "Another Kind of Fire," as well as her last CD, was funded entirely by her very loyal and steadily growing legion of fans.
Edie has shared stages with Sandra Bernhard, Jonatha Brooke, Catie Curtis, Leo Kottke, Lucy Kaplansky, and is a regular headliner at Boston's legendary Club Passim, Schuba's (Chicago), Cafe Montmartre (Madison), CSPS (Cedar Rapids), Tractor Tavern (Seattle), Hotel Cafe (Los Angeles), and The Living Room (New York City). She has also toured extensively with Melissa Ferrick.
Opening act Janette Kaden is a singer-songwriter, native Oregonian, and former member of several popular Portland bands. First came the Dahoo Chorus, an experimental rock opera choir started by Jon Averil (founder of the MarchFourth Marching Band). They did covers like Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, and Radiohead, and sold out shows in thousand-seat theaters. The Dahoo Chorus included a full band of top-notch musicians like Dave Camp (Stereovision), Carl (Solovox), and Jason Wells (Trashcan Joe). Janette says, "It was definitely a highlight of my life." After the Dahoo Chorus came Emily Post, a five-girl wall of sound (formed by former Dahoo members), mostly accepella, with a smattering of instrumentation. They performed as a band for about two years.
Janette is very excited to be playing out more as a solo artist. Her full rich voice and compelling presence combine with a sparkling sense of humor and fun that will make you feel immediately at home. Janette is the owner of Portland's popular Tin Shed Garden Cafe and a founder of the Urban Farm Collective.
