Classic Vinyl Listening Club- U2's The Joshua Tree
Writer Steve Morse returns to the Dance Hall for their third vinyl listening event featuring U2's groundbreaking album The Joshua Tree. Joining Steve is Boston deejay John Laurenti.
The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by rock band U2. It was produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, and was released in March of 1987 on Island Records. Inspired by American tour experiences, literature, and politics, U2 chose America as a theme for the record. The Joshua Tree received critical acclaim, topped the charts in over 20 countries, and sold in record-breaking numbers. According to Rolling Stone, the album increased the band's stature "from heroes to superstars".
Frequently featured on critics' lists of rock's greatest records, The Joshua Tree is one of the world's best-selling albums, with over 25 million copies sold. U2 released a remastered edition of the record in 2007 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. In 2014, the album was selected for preservation in the United States Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
