HOME, LAND, HOMELAND: A Journey through the Five Senses to a Dreamed of Heartland
It's the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon in the cycle of the Chinese Zodiac, a year for great creativity and transformation.
This elemental phase of the year of the dragon occurs once every sixty years, so we took the leap in our growth this year. We can't thank our sponsors and supporters enough for this year's literary event opportunity at SOUNDCHECK 2024!
WHO? "Shattering Glass," an ever-evolving band of social justice poets and spoken word artists (and creative friends of Rufina) will share poems, spoken word, and art about...
WHAT? HOME, LAND, HOMELAND: a journey through the five senses to a dreamed of heartland
WHERE? American Legion Hall
WHEN? Sunday, August 18, 2024, Early Arrival: 5:45 p.m. arrival for somatic, collective qi gong practice 6:00 pm doors close 6:00-7:15 pm: Poetry Readings 7:15-7:30 pm: Break 7:30-8:00 p.m. "Taste of the Land" Grazing Table

WHY? To hold some beautiful and hard things collectively in community, To reflect deeply on what "home" means to different people with unique voices, To experience with empathy, gratitude, and action, the grandeur and dualities of stolen indigenous lands, and To examine what "homeland" might evoke, as we telescope out from local experiences to the global crisis of Gaza through voices of poets advocating for peace.
This poetry event is open to the general public, free and sponsored.
Brown paper ticket ensures a reliable, general count of people to cook for the private, ticketed Taste of the Land Grazing Table (post-poetry reception for poets and friends).
