Mission Wine: Italian Basics with Becky Swanson
There are over 2000 different types of grapes grown in Italy, not counting the international varieties that are grown in other countries as well. On Monday, May 4 at 18 Reasons, we won't list them all. Instead, Delfina wine director Becky Swanson will breakdown a rather overwhelming part of the wine world into useful information that will help you understand what you like and dislike about Italian wine.
In this introductory course we will cover:
- The DOCG appellation system (which will help you read the wine label) - Basic stylistic differences of wines from the North, Central, and Southern parts of the country (which will help you decide what you like) - How to find bargains, for there are many out there, at restaurants and retail shops (which will help wine stay a necessary expense as opposed to a discretionary one)
We will be tasting 6 wines: three whites and three reds that exemplify wine from their region. This class is geared toward beginners, yet welcomes wine drinkers of any level.
