Harvesting the Wasteland
On the northern edge of Europe, three generations of the Lykken family live under the same roof on a farm in the remote village of Lykkja (Happiness) in snowy Norway. Guri, mother-in-law, 96, and Marit, daughter-in-law, 54, govern this traditional household side-by-side in a place where there is really only room for one of them. Marit finally finds the strength to free herself from tradition and leaves the farm. "Marit's rebellion symbolizes the destinies of past generations of women. Harvesting the Wasteland provides a gripping look at Marit's quiet and dignified rebellion." (Helsingfors Doc Fest prize)
