Summer Makers Camp - Circus Week
SUMMER MAKERS CAMP: Circus Week Session 1: Monday July 28 - Friday Aug 1: Ages 7 - 10 Circus from Scratch with Abbeth Russell Monday - Friday, 9am-4pm | $250 Full week or $65 per day (see below for details)
The Circus is coming to town this summer! It is a circus that doesn't exist yet because it is going to be created by you! Play exciting art games to open your mind and get your creativity flowing. Draw, paint, sculpt, and scrawl the most extraordinary circus you can imagine. Create a slew of crazy creatures and bring them to life in a puppet show. Learn the basics of juggling and make your own colorful bean bag juggling balls. At the end of the week we will all have put together an art, circus, and puppet show for friends and family. This week long camp will be jam packed with fun, creation, inspiration, and just a little bit of hand eye coordination. Families and friends are invited to our mini art show and performance on the last day of camp on Friday, August 1st, 4-5pm
Monday July 28 | Crazy Creatures We will start out with a fun group drawing game that will produce mythical creatures and monsters. Then you will create a 3d version of that creature, friends for it, a world for it to live in, and a book about its life. The day will also include juggling lessons, making a juggling ball and other various games and art activities. What to bring: Pictures of your favorite animals (not required), Lunch and Water bottle
Tuesday July 29 | Are you from the Circus? Create your own circus persona and a mask to match! We will also make simple puppets and puppet shows. The day will also include juggling lessons, making a juggling ball and other various games and art activities. What to bring: Lunch and Water bottle
Wednesday July 30 | Wild Orchestra Make instruments out of random stuff, write songs, and create puppets to dance and sing. The day will also include juggling lessons, making a juggling ball and other various games and art activities. What to bring: Plastic bottles, straws, pans and other random stuff (not required), Lunch and Water bottle
Thursday July 31 | Finger Puppet Theatre Make a theater on your hand, complete with a cast of characters and a background. Build a puppet theater, write a script, and perform! The day will also include juggling lessons, making a juggling ball and other various games and art activities. What to bring: Pictures of your favorite animals (not required), Lunch and Water bottle
Friday August 1 | Circus Posterama! Make a fun circus board game. Also make flashy posters and tickets to pull people into your circus. The day will also include juggling lessons, making a juggling ball and other various games and art activities. What to bring: Bagged lunch and water bottle.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Abbeth Russell is a founding member of the Hidden Ladder Collective, a rapidly growing tidal wave of creative energy based out of Portland, Maine. She curates interactive, multimedia shows at The Meg Perry Center and Mayo Street Arts. You may have seen her juggling fire, selling her art, or screaming songs around downtown Portland. Recently, Abbeth adapted her comic book "Legend of the Ladder People" into a puppet show which she performs with her band, "The Bumbling Woohas." Abbeth is an art and juggling teacher in Southern Maine. She received her BFA in Painting from Maine College of Art.
