About the Story In modern Athens, young lovers Lysander and Hermia escape the oppresive demands of newly engaged Theseus, King of Athens. They are followed by Demetrius, seeking to woo Hermia for himself in order to please his father, who is in turn followed by Helena, seeking to regain the attention of her now distant ex.
In the land of the fey, King Oberon and Queen Titania of the fairies are at an impasse in their relationship and severly lacking communication skills. Oberon, with his faithful but less than enthusiastic assistant Puck, begin to ply their fairy trade and, using a magic flower, seek to add cupid on his mission of love this night.
Meanwhile, the mechanicals, a group of local tradesmen seek to gain the favor of Theseus by putting on a play. However, their rehearsals are thrown asunder when their lead actor, Bottom, finds himself the victim of one of Puck's tricks.
