Modified Style--Transformed Fashion Show
This fashion show is a DIY benefit put on by two local ladies-Andrea Fretwell and Janessa Philemon-Kerp. Having attended, as a designer and a model respectively, the first Modified Style in Seattle, WA in November 2008, the two had a blast and decided to bring it on down to Portland and make it bigger and brighter (with the blessing and excitement of the two masterminds in Seattle).
How it works: Donations of scrap fabric were gathered from friends, acquaintances, shops and stores, and craigslist donors. Emails went out to friends and friends of friends to see who in their right mind would want to make a dress out of old scraps. Turns out, there's a lot of nutty creative people in Portland. Currently we have 30+ designers--some with literally zero sewing experience and some who do it for a living. This range of designers have 2 1/2 months to turn cotton, satin, denim, and even a piece of rug into a beautiful wearable creation.
The event will be held at the lovely Secret Society Ballroom on Sunday, May 17th. Doors open at 6. Transformed Fashion Show begins at 7pm. Beverages and snacks will be available, and every single dress will be up for Silent Auction. Proceeds will go to benefit The Farm Sanctuary, Sisters of the Road, and Junior Achievement.
