Title: Integrated and sustainable solutions for the urban management of water resources
Abstract: Urban areas are facing important challenges due to the growth of urban populations and soil sealing all over the world. It implies some issues related to the management of the water resource due to the increasing demand for human consumption and activities and wastewater and stormwater control and treatment. Climate change has exacerbated these critical features, causing a rise in drought and flood events. Consequently, traditional hydraulic infrastructures are often insufficient and subject to failure. In this context, nature-based solutions can be of support, providing several benefits for the environment and communities and making cities more sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and safe. This seminar will focus on the combination of more than one solution to maximize the single beneficial effects, modeling them with an analytical probabilistic model that allows overcoming the limits of the traditional models. Its integration with a predictive model and smart technologies for monitoring enables the optimal management of the systems under different climatic and working scenarios.
