Webinar: AIA Orange County Lunch Hour Program Design Professional Liens and Other Strategies to Get Paid
Course Description: Sometimes getting paid on a project can be tough. This program will provide an overview of some basic but powerful strategies to help architects get paid for their work. We will cover design professional liens, mechanics liens, how to leverage license rights, and key provisions to include (and avoid) in contracts to facilitate payment.
Learning Objectives Attendees will learn:
1. How to preserve and enforce design professional lien rights. 2. How to preserve and enforce mechanics lien rights. 3. How leverage license rights and copyright to get paid; and 4. What kinds of provisions to include in the contract to facilitate payment.

Presenters:
Paul A. Breucop Paul A. Breucop is an attorney in the firms Orange County office. His practice focuses on construction law, professional liability, public entity liability and general business litigation, including the representation of general contractors, construction managers, developers, architects, and engineers. Before joining the firm, Mr. Breucop represented investors, including public entities, in securities fraud litigation across the country. He has substantial experience in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigations, pleadings, discovery, class certification, dispositive motions, and appeals.
Rebecca J. Chmura Ms. Chmura is a trial attorney at the firms Orange County office. Ms. Chmuras practice primarily focuses on public entity liability, professional liability, labor and employment, general casualty litigation, general business litigation, commercial transactions, and trial. Ms. Chmuras practice includes competent representation of counties, cities, sheriffs, police officers, and other public employees, as well as architects, engineers, homeowners associations and board members, and legal professionals. As part of her practice, Ms. Chmura has vigorously defended clients in matters involving civil rights violations, wrongful imprisonment, Monell claims, personal injury, breach of contract, negligence, fraud, malpractice, and dangerous conditions.
