La Mixta Criolla La Mixta Criolla is a music and dance ensemble inspired by the rich and diverse musical culture of Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean. The band's repertoire of originals and funky renditions of classic pieces, features a variety of swinging Latin Caribbean grooves, from plena, bomba, guaracha jíbara, seisand aguinaldo, to merengue, son, rumba, cumbia and salsa. And the band is as comfortable, and passionate playing a slow seis con décimas, a bolero, or a classic danza. La CD AfroTaíno (2011) received outstanding reviews from dancers, DJs, and Latin music lovers from California, to New York, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and beyond! Rico Pabón Born into a family of musicians, dancing and playing music was just an everyday part of living. Rico found his voice as an emcee at the age of 15 and has since released 5 full length albums and has appeared on numerous compilations and collaborations garnering him much critical acclaim. A natural performer, Rico's vocal stamina, clarity and rhythm combined with the passionate delivery of his "true to life" lyrics make his energy on stage explosive and captivating. An MC whose artistry and activism are one in the same, Pabón says "I feel like it's my personal mission to stand for positivity no matter what mainstream folks are doing. I usually start my shows off a cappella, because I want the people to know that I'm trying to uplift their spirits and speak to their hearts, not just put words together and make them sound good, nor am I a merchant of death. I am life. I am the sun, and no different from a plant or flower in nature, if drowned in darkness, we look for the direction of the sun."
Carne Cruda The world's premier Post-Latin band! Raw and ready to rock, Carne Cruda hits the scene hard with the unbridled energy of the rowdiest latin music. Blending Surf with Cumbia, Son with Soca, and traditional with indie, the Carne Crudeboys (and Crudegirl) are a plastic flamingo on the neatly kempt lawn of Salsa music, jumping and shouting all over the tennis courts of the Latin traditionalists. When the Buena Vista Social Club gets Red Hot Chili Pepper-ified and They Might Be Giants eat Willie Colon, you know Carne Cruda is rocking the house. Produced by four-time Grammy-nominated producer Greg Landau (Susana Baca, Maldita Vecindad), don't miss Carne Cruda.
De Bahia a Bahia Mashing together styles from all over Latin America and the Caribbean with Dandara acting as Carnaval Queen brings you this energetic mix of Bacanalean proportions. De Bahia a Bahia is the shining result of a provocative collaboration, and the band is sure to knock your socks off. The unbridled energy of Dandara, often referred to as the Brazilian Tina Turner, is coupled with the creative powerhouse Carne Cruda, resulting in a wild Carnavalian experience. Producer Greg Landau fans the flames, and De Bahia a Bahia rages into an unstoppable inferno.
