Meet the Cheesemakers: Chelan County
**UPDATE: With fewer than 2 weeks to go, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Meet the Cheesemakers event due to a severe lack of ticket sales. Thank you for your interest; we hope to schedule a cheese-focused event in the Wenatchee area or Chelan County again someday.**
Come learn about cheese, cheesemakers, and cheesemaking in Washington state! This fun and delicious educational seminar will be led by Courtney Johnson, Executive Director of the Washington State Cheesemakers Association. Dr. Johnson will talk about the wide world of Washington cheese, explain how cheese is made, and lead a panel discussion featuring three local cheesemakers. The panel will include a guided tasting of cheeses made by each of the cheesemakers. After the seminar there will be a short meet-and-greet session with the possibility to buy cheese directly from the makers.
The Cheesemakers Clover Mountain Dairy is a certified organic, farmstead creamery in Chewelah, WA. They make hyper-seasonal cheeses and age them in a cave recently built on their property. Laurel's Crown is a farmstead creamery located in Chelan specializing in making cow's milk cheeses and caramel sauce. Pine Stump Farms is a goat creamery located on the Colville Indian Reservation in Okanogan County, near Omak. They make a variety of styles of cheeses from the milk of the farm's own goats.
The Presenter Courtney Johnson, PhD, ACS CCP, CCSE, is Executive Director of the Washington State Cheesemakers Association. Courtney is an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional, Certified Cheese Sensory Evaluator, and cheese educator. She is a career cheesemonger who has worked for specialty grocery stores in the greater Seattle area and now owns her own mobile cheese shop, Street Cheese.
The Host Washington State Cheesemakers Association (WASCA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit founded in 2015. WASCA supports Washington state's cheesemakers through education, collaboration, and networking. Membership is open to licensed cheesemakers, businesses, and cheese enthusiasts.
This event is made possible thanks in part to funding received from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Farmers Market Promotion Program grant. All proceeds that remain after covering the costs of this event will be reinvested into future programming to support Washington cheesemakers.
*Advance ticket sales only.*
PLEASE NOTE Because our cheesemakers will be preparing cheese in advance based on ticket sales for this event, we are unable to offer refunds after June 24. If you are unable to attend, please give your tickets to a friend, or let us know and we will try to help you find a new home for them.
